Editorial biography
Bart Campolo (born 1963) is an American humanist speaker and former evangelical Christian minister who transitioned to secular humanism in 2011. Son of prominent evangelical sociologist and pastor Tony Campolo, Bart spent decades in urban ministry and social justice work within evangelical Christianity before losing his faith. He co-authored "Why I Left, Why I Stayed" (2017) with his father, presenting a respectful dialogue between believer and non-believer that explores fundamental questions about faith, meaning, and morality. The book offers a unique contribution to literature on deconversion and interfaith family relationships. Campolo now serves as the humanist chaplain at the University of Cincinnati, where he provides secular community building and counseling. His work focuses on demonstrating how former believers can maintain purpose, community, and ethical commitment without religious faith, making him a significant voice in contemporary discussions about post-Christian spirituality and secular meaning-making.
