Editorial biography
David Berlinski (1942- ) is an American philosopher, mathematician, and critic of scientific atheism who has contributed to debates on the relationship between science and religion. Educated at Columbia University and Princeton University, Berlinski taught mathematics and philosophy at various institutions before becoming a senior fellow at the Discovery Institute's Center for Science and Culture. His work challenges the philosophical foundations of scientific materialism and atheism, particularly in The Devil's Delusion: Atheism and Its Scientific Pretensions (2008), where he argues that modern atheists overstate science's ability to address metaphysical questions. While controversial for his skepticism of evolutionary theory and association with intelligent design advocacy, Berlinski's critiques of scientism and reductionist explanations of human existence have influenced contemporary discussions about the limits of scientific knowledge in addressing questions of God, meaning, and purpose.
