Editorial biography
Stephen C. Evans (1948-) is an American philosopher specializing in philosophy of religion, Christian philosophy, and Kierkegaard studies. He earned his PhD from Yale University (1977) and taught at Calvin College and Baylor University, where he is currently University Professor of Philosophy and Humanities. Evans has made significant contributions to understanding religious epistemology, particularly defending the rationality of Christian belief without relying on natural theology. His work on Kierkegaard, including "Kierkegaard on Faith and the Self" (2006), offers sophisticated philosophical analyses of Kierkegaardian themes such as faith, subjectivity, and selfhood. Evans argues for a "responsible fideism" that acknowledges both the limits of reason and the legitimacy of faith. His other major works include "The Historical Christ and the Jesus of Faith" (1996) and "Natural Signs and Knowledge of God" (2010), where he develops an argument for theistic belief based on natural signs that point to God's existence.
