Editorial biography
Dean Falk is an American paleoanthropologist and brain evolution specialist whose work has significantly impacted debates about human origins and their theological implications. As a professor of anthropology at Florida State University, Falk pioneered the study of brain evolution through analysis of endocranial casts, particularly her controversial "radiator hypothesis" for brain cooling in early hominids. Her book The Fossil Chronicles (2011) examines how paleontological discoveries challenge traditional religious narratives about human creation and uniqueness. While not directly addressing theology, Falk's research on cognitive evolution raises fundamental questions about consciousness, intelligence, and human exceptionalism that bear on theological anthropology and natural theology. Her work exemplifies how scientific discoveries in human evolution continue to reshape discussions about humanity's place in creation and relationship to the divine.
