Editorial biography
Paul Helm (1940-) is a British philosopher specializing in philosophical theology and Reformed thought. He served as J.I. Packer Professor of Theology and Philosophy at Regent College, Vancouver (2001-2005) and previously taught at King's College London. Helm has made significant contributions to the philosophy of religion through his rigorous analytical approach to classical theism, divine providence, and religious epistemology. His work bridges contemporary analytic philosophy with historical Reformed theology, particularly engaging with Calvin and Puritan thought. In Faith with Reason (2000), he examines the relationship between religious belief and rational justification, while Reason and Religion explores epistemological issues in religious belief. Helm's scholarship is characterized by careful philosophical analysis of traditional Christian doctrines, including divine timelessness, foreknowledge, and sovereignty. His work has influenced debates on theological determinism and the coherence of classical theism.
