Editorial biography
John Piper (1946-present) is an American theologian and pastor who served as senior pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota from 1980 to 2013. Educated at Wheaton College, Fuller Theological Seminary, and the University of Munich (D.theol., 1971), Piper has been a prominent voice in Reformed evangelical theology. His theological framework, often termed "Christian Hedonism," argues that God is most glorified when humans find their greatest satisfaction in Him, as articulated in his influential work Desiring God (1986). Through Desiring God Ministries, founded in 1994, Piper has produced extensive writings on God's sovereignty, the relationship between divine glory and human joy, and Reformed interpretations of scripture. His contributions include over 50 books examining topics such as divine providence, the nature of saving faith, and God's purposes in suffering. Piper's work has significantly shaped contemporary evangelical discourse on the nature of God and proper human response to divine sovereignty.
