Editorial biography
Jane Dammen McAuliffe (born 1944) is an American scholar of Islamic studies and Quranic exegesis who has made significant contributions to interfaith dialogue and comparative theology. She served as President of Bryn Mawr College (2008-2013) and Dean of Georgetown College (1999-2007). McAuliffe's scholarship focuses on Quranic hermeneutics and the intersection of Islamic theology with contemporary religious discourse. As editor of The Cambridge Companion to the Qur'an (2006) and the six-volume Encyclopaedia of the Qur'an (2001-2006), she has shaped modern academic approaches to Islamic scripture. Her work examines how Muslims understand divine revelation and interpret sacred text, contributing to broader conversations about the nature of God, scriptural authority, and religious epistemology. McAuliffe's scholarship bridges Islamic studies and comparative theology, facilitating deeper understanding of how different religious traditions conceptualize the divine.
