Editorial biography

Plato (428-348 BCE) was an ancient Greek philosopher whose metaphysical system profoundly shaped Western theology and philosophy of religion. Born in Athens, he founded the Academy and developed a comprehensive philosophical system centered on the Theory of Forms. His conception of the Form of the Good, articulated in Republic VI-VII, represents an absolute, transcendent principle that later influenced monotheistic conceptions of God. In dialogues such as Timaeus, Plato presents the Demiurge as a divine craftsman who orders the cosmos according to eternal patterns. His arguments for the immortality of the soul in Phaedo and Phaedrus, along with his vision of ultimate reality as immaterial and eternal, provided crucial foundations for subsequent Neoplatonic and Christian philosophical theology. Through Augustine and others, Platonic concepts became integral to medieval discussions of divine attributes, creation, and the relationship between God and the world.
