Editorial biography
Vern Sheridan Poythress (born 1946) is an American Reformed theologian and philosopher who holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics from Harvard University and a Th.D. in New Testament from the University of Stellenbosch. Currently serving as Distinguished Professor of New Testament, Biblical Interpretation, and Systematic Theology at Westminster Theological Seminary, Poythress has made significant contributions to the integration of Christian theology with various academic disciplines. His work "Redeeming Sociology: A God-Centered Approach" exemplifies his broader project of developing distinctively Christian approaches to secular fields of study. Poythress argues that all academic disciplines, including the social sciences, must be understood within a theological framework that acknowledges God's sovereignty over creation. His scholarship consistently emphasizes the lordship of Christ over all areas of human knowledge and advocates for a presuppositional apologetic approach rooted in Reformed theology.
