Editorial biography
Robert Koons (1957-present) is an American philosopher who has made significant contributions to natural theology and the philosophy of religion. A professor at the University of Texas at Austin, Koons is known for his sophisticated defenses of theistic arguments, particularly his work on the cosmological argument. His book "Realism Regained" (2000) develops a neo-Aristotelian metaphysics that supports theistic conclusions. Koons has written extensively on divine simplicity, the problem of evil, and the relationship between science and religion. He has defended a version of the kalām cosmological argument and contributed to discussions of fine-tuning and intelligent design. A convert from Lutheranism to Catholicism, Koons integrates Thomistic philosophy with contemporary analytic methods. His work represents a rigorous philosophical engagement with classical theism, combining metaphysical analysis with arguments from natural theology to defend the rationality of belief in God.
