Editorial biography
Stuart G. Shanker is a Canadian philosopher and developmental psychologist who has made significant contributions to the philosophy of mind, language, and mathematics. While primarily known for his work on self-regulation and child development, Shanker's philosophical contributions include important scholarship on Wittgenstein's philosophy of mathematics and the foundations of mathematical knowledge. As editor of the ninth volume of the Routledge History of Philosophy, covering philosophy of science, logic and mathematics in the twentieth century, Shanker helped shape contemporary understanding of how mathematical and logical frameworks intersect with questions of meaning, truth, and knowledge. Though not directly focused on theology or philosophy of religion, his work on the foundations of mathematics and logic has implications for understanding the rational basis of metaphysical arguments, including those concerning God's existence and nature. His interdisciplinary approach bridges philosophy of mind with questions about human consciousness and reasoning that bear on religious epistemology.
