Editorial biography
Jeffry A. Simpson is a prominent evolutionary psychologist whose work has significantly influenced discussions about the evolutionary origins of religious belief and cognition. As a Distinguished Professor of Psychology at the University of Minnesota, Simpson has contributed to understanding how evolutionary processes shape human psychology, including religious and spiritual tendencies. His collaborative work "The Evolution of Mind: Fundamental Questions and Controversies" (2007), co-edited with Steven W. Gangestad, examines evolutionary approaches to understanding human cognition, including the cognitive mechanisms underlying religious belief. While not primarily a philosopher of religion, Simpson's research on attachment theory, social cognition, and evolutionary psychology has provided important empirical and theoretical frameworks for understanding the psychological foundations of religious belief, contributing to naturalistic explanations of religious phenomena that engage with broader philosophical debates about the origins and nature of belief in God.
