Editorial biography
Ali Sina is an Iranian-Canadian ex-Muslim activist and writer who founded the website Faith Freedom International in 2001. His controversial work "Understanding Muhammad: A Psychobiography of Allah's Prophet" (2008) attempts to analyze the Islamic prophet Muhammad through a psychological lens, arguing that Muhammad exhibited symptoms of various mental disorders. Sina's writings represent a polemical rather than scholarly approach to Islamic theology, focusing on criticism of Islam's foundational figure and religious texts. While his work has found an audience among critics of Islam, it has been rejected by mainstream Islamic scholars and many academics as lacking scholarly rigor and objectivity. Sina advocates for what he terms "enlightenment" of Muslims away from their faith, positioning himself as part of the ex-Muslim movement that emerged in the early 21st century.
