Editorial biography
Anjan Chakravartty is a Canadian philosopher of science whose work on scientific realism has significant implications for natural theology and religious epistemology. Currently at the University of Miami, previously at Notre Dame, Chakravartty's analysis of how we gain knowledge of unobservable entities in science provides important parallels for theological method. His sophisticated treatment of scientific realism in "A Metaphysics for Scientific Realism" (2007) and "Scientific Ontology" (2017) offers resources for understanding how we might have warranted beliefs about transcendent realities. His epistemology of science, particularly regarding inference to the best explanation and the role of metaphysics in scientific theorizing, has been influential in discussions about the rationality of theistic belief and the relationship between scientific and religious ways of knowing.
