Editorial biography
Malcolm Jeeves (1926-) is a distinguished British neuropsychologist who has made significant contributions to the dialogue between neuroscience, psychology, and religious faith. As Emeritus Professor of Psychology at the University of St. Andrews, Jeeves has spent his career exploring the relationship between brain science and Christian belief. His work challenges both reductionist materialism and dualistic approaches to human nature, arguing for a non-reductive physicalist understanding that maintains the reality of mental and spiritual dimensions while acknowledging their embodiment in neural processes. Through books like "Human Nature at the Millennium" (1997) and "Neuroscience, Psychology and Religion" (2009), co-authored with Warren S. Brown, Jeeves has demonstrated how contemporary neuroscience need not threaten religious belief but can enrich our understanding of human religiosity and spiritual experience. His interdisciplinary approach has helped establish neuroscience as a legitimate conversation partner in theological discussions about personhood, consciousness, and the imago Dei.
