Editorial biography
J.P. Moreland (1948-) is an American philosopher and theologian who has made significant contributions to the philosophy of mind and arguments for God's existence. Holding a PhD in philosophy from the University of Southern California, he serves as Distinguished Professor of Philosophy at Talbot School of Theology, Biola University. Moreland is a leading advocate of substance dualism and has developed sophisticated arguments linking consciousness to theism. His work "Consciousness and the Existence of God: A Theistic Argument" (2008) presents a detailed case that the existence of consciousness is best explained by theism rather than naturalism. He argues that mental properties and the emergence of consciousness are fundamentally incompatible with physicalism, and that theism provides a more coherent explanation for the mind-body relationship. Moreland has authored numerous books defending Christian theism through philosophical argumentation, particularly focusing on the soul, consciousness, and divine action.
