Editorial biography
Emanuel Tov (b. 1941) is an Israeli biblical scholar and one of the world's foremost authorities on the textual criticism of the Hebrew Bible. He served as Editor-in-Chief of the Dead Sea Scrolls Publication Project from 1990 to 2009, overseeing the publication of numerous scroll fragments. His seminal work "Textual Criticism of the Hebrew Bible" (1992, with subsequent editions) has become the standard textbook in the field, providing comprehensive analysis of the transmission history of biblical texts. Tov's meticulous scholarship has illuminated the complex relationships between the Masoretic Text, the Septuagint, the Samaritan Pentateuch, and the Dead Sea Scrolls. His work has profound implications for understanding the development of biblical texts that form the foundation of Jewish and Christian theology, offering crucial insights into how sacred texts were preserved, copied, and interpreted across centuries.
