Editorial biography
Wayne Grudem (1948-) is an American evangelical theologian and biblical scholar who has significantly influenced contemporary systematic theology and biblical interpretation. Educated at Harvard (BA), Westminster Seminary (MDiv), and Cambridge University (PhD), he served as professor at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (1981-2001) and Phoenix Seminary (2001-present). His systematic theology textbook (1994) became a standard evangelical reference work, presenting Reformed theology in accessible language. In "Christian Beliefs" (2005), co-authored with Elliot Grudem, he distilled core Christian doctrines for lay readers. Grudem's work emphasizes biblical authority, complementarian gender theology, and continuationist pneumatology. His contributions to the philosophy of religion include defending divine providence, biblical inerrancy, and the coherence of orthodox Christian theism against modernist critiques. While influential among evangelicals, his positions on gender roles and politics have generated substantial debate within contemporary theology.
